Conservative activists want to silence conservative critics of President Donald Trump, the group announced on Monday.
The group, American Conservative, was created by Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) after King’s comments about Trump and his presidency in February.
The group has made a point of attacking King and the president in the past, including an April interview with the conservative news outlet Breitbart News.
On Tuesday, the conservative group published a new article, titled, “Is Trump the new Nazi?” in the American Conservative magazine.
It said that Trump and other leaders of the Republican Party have “succeeded in silencing conservatives, including conservative intellectuals, conservative media and conservative politicians, while attempting to discredit conservatives in the media and academia.”
“It’s not just a bunch of people who are afraid of us,” the article says.
“It’s a whole political class.”
King and his allies are using the article to push for a “conscience clause” in the Constitution, which would bar the government from forcing people to vote for a particular candidate.
In 2016, King and other conservative groups used a “Conscience Clause” in their lawsuit against the Obama administration to force the Supreme Court to hear a case against the Affordable Care Act, or ACA, a federal health law enacted under the Bush administration.
The lawsuit sought to overturn the ACA, which was signed into law by Obama in 2010.
King, however, was one of several conservatives who filed that lawsuit, and the Supreme court rejected his attempt.
The article also notes that “some conservatives have been so concerned about this law that they have called for it to be repealed or modified in some way.”
King said in a statement on Monday that conservatives are “ready to fight back” against the Trump administration’s “silencing of conservative voices and journalists.”
“This is not a new trend, and we will continue to work hard to protect the Constitution from its totalitarian agenda,” the statement reads.
The statement also noted that Trump “has done more to silence conservatives than any president in American history.”
King’s group also published a list of a dozen people who were allegedly involved in a series of attacks on conservative and conservative media figures, including Breitbart News host Milo Yiannopoulos and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski.
In addition to Yiannopoulos and Lewandowski, the American Conservatives are listed as members of the American Civil Liberties Union and the American Family Association, two groups that have denounced Trump’s policies.
The American Family’s president, Tony Perkins, said the American Constitution Society and other groups have not been contacted by the group in response to the new article.
“We have not received a letter from them or any other group, but we will respond to anyone who will, as we have to,” Perkins said in an interview with The Washington Post.
The American Conservative also plans to release a report on its findings on Tuesday.
