MTV News has named its 2018-19 Classical Music Awards, a celebration of the best of the year’s classical music, and now, the Academy of Music has decided to reward that with an honor that it has rarely bestowed on its peers.
The ceremony will air live on Christmas Eve at 11 p.m.
ET on ABC.
The Academy’s 2017 nominees will be announced on December 20, and the ceremony will be followed by a live show.
As part of its award show, the academy is expected to award three awards in particular: The Top Classical Album, a category that has traditionally been reserved for albums that have won awards.
The Best Contemporary Music Album will be presented to David Gans’s first album in 20 years.
And, of course, the Best Contemporary Song will be a tie-in to the Oscars, with a nod to his work on The Night Before.
This year’s nominations are in addition to the previous winners of the awards, which have included David Gies, Rachael Breslin, and Amy Winehouse.
The 2017 winners include Bruno Mars, who was awarded the award for Best Contemporary Album.
